Children’s Home Cottages, Improvements
Need: Improvements to 3 existing duplex living cottages
Location: Kamuli District, Uganda, Sonrise Children’s Home compound
Background: When we completed our 3 cottages (6 apartments) in 2018 we did what we could within funds available. Several items need to be improved and you can help. The concrete porches need to be resurfaced with a more durable terrazzo. The attics need to be spayed for bats. Lighting arrestor systems need to be installed on all roofs and 2 filing cabinets are needed for personal data on our 70 or so children. Pantry cabinets are needed in the kitchens. We desire to make critical improvements to our worn-out plumbing fixtures and run a water line from our new water well to improve water pressure to the cottages.
Cost:
- Pantries for 6 apartments - $3,900
- Shelving - $2,100
- Installing Terrazzo wear surface over chipping concrete floors - $20,000
- Plumbing repairs in 6 apartments - $7,440
- Adding doors where needed, in 6 apartments - $1,500
- Bat spraying every 3 months - $1,600.
- Lightning arrester system - $3,000 (gov. requirement)
- Filing cabinets (2) - $500
Benefits:
Fully operational plumbing fixtures.

Budget: $40,040
