Sharif J (Rasta)

Sharif J (Rasta) was born July 27, 2011.

Rasta (Joel) came to the Sonrise Baby Home as a severely malnourished infant after his mother became gravely ill and could no longer care for him. Tragically, she passed away when he was just two years old. His father later denied paternity and abandoned him, leaving Rasta without a family to call his own.

But God had a different plan for Rasta. He’s one of the many beautiful stories of rescue, healing, and hope at Sonrise, raised from near death to a thriving young man. Now a teenager, Rasta is healthy, full of energy, and has a quiet strength about him. He loves playing soccer, making chapattis (a Ugandan favorite), and though shy around new people, he’s incredibly kind and thoughtful once you get to know him.

Rasta dreams of becoming a musician, using his voice to share the love of Christ through song. His journey is a powerful testimony of restoration—and with your help, his story can continue to unfold in beautiful ways.

Would you consider sponsoring Rasta? Your support of just $30 to $60 a month can help provide for his education, food, medical care, and spiritual growth. Be a part of his story—and help him continue to dream, grow, and shine.
