Mirembe Cottage News / Need

SCHOOLS

COVID impacts continue to be felt throughout Uganda. One that has impacted all children of Uganda is the governments shutdown on all schools in March 2020. The word is that they will open up all or partial classes in Jan 2022.

TRANSITION HOME

We have 10 girls that must be transitioned out of our home because of age, according to the government. A Transition Home is needed immediately. While this has been known for a years, we’ve not had the funding to address the need for a transisiton home.

Once one of our girls turn 18 years old, she cannot live in Mirembe Cottage. For many children, their school is complete after S4 and they are able to go to a university or to learn a trade. For many of our girls, they got a late start beginning school because of being orphaned to the streets earlier in life. Many are behind years of education. We don’t want to put anyone out into the world until they can support themselves.

Short Term Need, Rental Home: Daniel (Director) is working to secure a rental home so the girls can be relocated. In recent weeks, this need has been met through generous donors. We now have the funds to secure the rental for about 6 months and provide furniture.

Long Term Need, Construct Transition Home: To construct a home for senior girls, $33,000

Even with their relocation, the girls need job training and employment. We’ll need to hire additional staff and will have increased need for transportation. Please pray for us in this critical need.
