Mirembe Cottage Ministry, Uganda
Changing lives, one child at a time.
Although schools in Uganda have been closed since March (exception - P7 Senior 4 and 6 returned October 15) we continue to pay our 30 teachers and staff so they can provide for their families, as well as providing for medical needs of our students. We have also taken this time to do some improvements including adding much needed sidewalks around the school yard. During the rainy season, the mud can make quite a mess.
We are praying school will resume for all students after the first of the year.
Our 400+ students are eagerly waiting to return.
Did you know it cost only $15 a month to keep a child from the village in school? $15 monthly covers their tuition, provides two meals a day, school supplies, etc.
Amos, Joanne and Daniel (Director of Mirembe Cottage Ministries) work endlessly to ensure both the girls at Mirembe Cottage and the school are run smoothly and efficiently. They not only make sure needs are being met, but show the love of Christ as they work with the girls at the home, students and those in Wakikooola village.
Secondary School News
In February, 2020, a much needed secondary school was added on the premises. This will ensure that not only the Mirembe Cottage girls have a close secondary school to attend, but also the village students after they complete Primary 7. We currently have Senior 1 and Senior 2 and plan to add an additional class each year. Our future goal is to begin a vocational school for the students to attend after they have completed Senior 4.
The girls at Mirembe Cottage have been busy since March planting and tending to their 1 3/4 acre garden that is planted with maize, beans, peppers and eggplant. This not only teaches them gardening skills but also helps the home become more self sufficient.
The pandemic has changed everyone's lives including the girls at Mirembe Cottage. They have spent most of this time confined to the property. This month they enjoyed some much needed time away. The day was filled with laughter, dance, games, food and fun!
We have several financial needs which include the following: Sponsors are needed for several girls who make Mirembe Cottage for Girls their home ($30+/per month) as well as for village children to attend Mirembe Primary School ($15 per month), finances to install solar electricity for both schools (the classrooms get dark when it is cloudy/rainy and we will also need this for the secondary school for computer class) $20,000, construction of Senior 3 and 4 classrooms ($15,000), 15 computers for the secondary school ($350 each), student textbooks for primary 6 and Senior 2 ($1500) , improved outside kitchen with food storage for Mirembe Cottage for Girls ($5,000). We are also looking for individuals, churches, or organizations who would consider a monthly donation that would go towards the general needs of Mirembe Cottage for Girls as well as the Primary and Secondary Schools. There are many needs that are currently not covered by monthly child sponsorships.
