Kisakye’s smile is truly contagious—her warmth and love shine brightly despite the very difficult start she had in life.
At a very young age, Kisakye was abandoned by her mother and left in the care of her stepfather, who cruelly tied her to a coffee tree trunk, wishing her harm. Due to this severe mistreatment, Kisakye became crippled, lost her ability to speak, contracted pneumonia, and suffered from severe malnutrition.
An elder woman from the village found Kisakye and traced her to her grandmother, who took her in. But as a peasant farmer with limited resources, her grandmother was unable to provide the care Kisakye desperately needed. Desperate for help, she brought Kisakye to the Sonrise Children’s Home. We provided milk and nutritious food, but Kisakye’s condition did not improve. In July 2021, with her grandmother’s blessing, we took Kisakye into our full-time care.
Despite living with cerebral palsy, Kisakye is making tremendous progress. Through dedicated therapy, she has gained the ability to sit up, feed herself, and drink independently. She can now crawl out of bed and explore her surroundings on her own, gradually gaining her independence.
Her radiant smile can brighten anyone’s day. Kisakye loves looking at picture books and listening to music—simple joys that light up her world and those around her.
